Welcome to the virtual art gallery!
Take a look around, have a sip of coffee, and enjoy yourself!
Expect more updates as my body of work continues to expand.
One of my favorite things to do is to take my watercolor field kit and paint scenes on location, especially with friends. Most of my doodles result from attempts to entertain and encourage my friends or develop picture book ideas.
I've never received any painting instruction, so I've tended to favor pen and ink (I even produced a serial comic strip for my high school newspaper.) I'm currently seeking a painting teacher and working to improve my skills with an eye towards portraiture and illustration of children's books. To admire the beauty found in the faces around me and in this vast natural world gives life to my soul and is a reminder of the One who designed it all.
I love to make jewelry because the stones remind me of my older brother and his childhood rock collection. Many of my pieces reflect my fascination with archeology and appreciation for the fruits of the sea. My textile work includes knitting and crochet, quilting, and clothing design and construction. I also own an antique spinning wheel and am looking for a place to learn to spin wool.
We feel so much guilt when clothing doesn't fit right, so it was a radical paradigm shift for me the day that I realized our bodies are beautiful in their uniqueness, and poor fits are the fault of mass-produced clothing, not our bodies' faults. Although I have never been very interested in fashion trends, I sometimes dream (while sleeping) of new fashions or color combinations.
Ceramics are a new and exciting venture for me as, for one month during summer 2025, I took an introductory ceramics class at Joy Pottery in Bryan-College Station. At the end of the class, I purchased a 25 pound sack of B Mix clay in the hopes that I might continue to hand sculpt on my own, since my current work schedule makes further classes almost impossible.
A lifelong and familial love of gardening informs my work with vegetation and wood, whether considering the landscape of my yard or fresh and silk arrangements. In my pieces, I enjoy attempting to capture the peace, well-being, and comfort that I feel when engaged with plants. Recent tagging along to Ikebana lessons with a close friend who is a certified Ikenobo artist has resulted in some joyful new perspectives for style.
In my garden right now, I'm sprouting the seeds from some crossbred day lilies, and I'm attempting to breed a more heat-resistant pimento.
